Amanda Todd

Bullies target people who are:

Weak natured
Quiet & meek
Afraid
Unpopular
Alone
Handicapped or disabled in some way

Amanda Todd

Her story about how cyber and reality bullying eventually led to suicide. It really choked me up as I was a victim of bully myself in Primary and Secondary School. I gotta admit that all this time, I really felt that suicide would be total liberation. I have constantly contemplated suicide; however failed to have the balls to do it. I also am afraid of pain and heights. The worst scenario would be, to become a living dead, and to leave behind outstanding bills. Sometimes, you wanna seek death but you might get unwillingly saved by people who think that they are “saving” your life. Sometimes, you may be rushed to the hospital and incur horrendous bills that your parents would have to slog to pay. Sometimes, your life is so unlucky that if you seek death, you simply end up living. Sometimes, you can’t be selfish and you have to think about the aftermath. Although I wished I could change schools, I feared the vicious cycle would repeat as I knew the root of the problem was myself. On the side note, my family wasn’t that well to do and I can’t put my uniforms and school registration costs to waste. I didn't tell a soul about it except for God.

Back in my primary school days when I was an introverted nerd, I also had no one. The only one “friend” I had, bullied me all the time. Walked alone, hide in canteen alone and walked home alone. I kept everything inside me in school and I cried everyday after school at my corridor, thinking of ways to leave this world in the most painless way. Then I returned home after my eyes were dried. It was a heartwrenching painful 6 years dated; 1991-1996. Long story short, I was introverted namely because of my hyperhidrosis condition.

I started afresh in secondary school where I though I could begin start over. Adopted a cheerful disposition and attitude in life. Found humor in things and joked a lot. Made friends. Classmate bullying started again when I was around 15 years old. Once again, solitariness consumed me. Recess times were the most painful periods. When others were eating and playing in glee, I spent it wandering the deserted corridors and hiding at the empty loos to ball my eyes out. Living in fear all the time. Fear of going to school and facing the cold eyes upon me. Fear of what she may say or do to me. You could say my life really sucked. I spiraled in depression and morbid thoughts on suicide resurfaced, hailing me to join death in the other world.I constantly wondered what I have done to deserve it. Tears shed and dried. I clammed up like a shellfish.

Affirmed to myself that once I get into a Polytechnic, I would never let myself be bullied again. Whilst other ladies had make-overs in physical appearances, I made-over myself with a 360 degrees change in my character. I was outgoing, sociable and made friends wherever I went. I made friends in the Ladies, lecture halls, labs ect. I would not likely be a target for bullying as long as I have a lot of friends and seemed “happening” to others. I can’t say that I had a single worthy friend that I still maintain ties with, but it all seemed like I had a good many hi and bye friends then. It worked like a charm.

I spent many years alone. It didn’t teach me how to be independent or to live strong. It taught me the cruelty of human and how it could detonate a life that wasn’t bright to begin with. I have learnt to be oblivious to people who disparage and attempt to outcast me. I spent so many years alone that it no longer seems forbidding. I simply can’t let such trivial matters affect me anymore as I have load of new challenges that I face and am unable to comprehend, such as my hives.

Sometimes, I don’t even know the me now. Is this really who I am or am I just who I chose to be?

It saddens me that her life was filled with regret and so much pain. She is now at peace and I am glad for her. I'd like to say that I do not condone or encourage suicide but I understand how she feels. God bless her and you.

Itch (Urticaria)

Torture, understand? its worse than death. it makes me beg for death.
God please have mercy on my soul.

When people ask me to find out what I'm allergic to, my answer would be...

"I'm allergic to air. The day I stop breathing, my allergies will go away." Yes siree. Round of Applause, please. No? Not funny? Okay, if you say so.

skin itch. i scratch. skin breaks. skin red.
skin itch. skin pricks. skin hurts.
skin begs me to scratch.

My day always starts with a smile
By mid-morning, it kinda turns upside down
By noon, what's left is my big o frown
Wish I could turn it back the right way around

Presenting this song that I totally connect deeply with whenever I feel emotionally unstable when hives outbreak. Fellow sufferers, pray God will wash it all away.

Lyrics
Evanescence - Understand(Wash It All Away)

"You hold the answers deep within your own mind.
Consciously, you've forgotten it.
That's the way the human mind works.
Whenever something is too unpleasant, to shameful for us
to entertain, we reject it.
We erase it from our memories.
But the imprint is always there."

(Can't wash it all away)
(Can't Wish it all away)
(Can't hope it all away)
(Can't cry it all away)

The pain that grips you
The fear that binds you
Releases life in me
In our mutual
Shame we hide our eyes
To blind them from the truth
That finds a way from who we are
Please don't be afraid
When the darkness fades away
The dawn will break the silence
Screaming in our hearts
My love for you still grows
This I do for you
Before I try to fight the truth my final time

"We're supposed to try and be real.
And I feel alone, and we're not together. And that is real."

Can't wash it all away
Can't wish it all away
Can't cry it all away
Can't scratch it all away

Lying beside you
Listening to you breathe
The life that flows inside of you
Burns inside of me
Hold and speak to me
Of love without a sound
Tell me you will live through this
And I will die for you
Cast me not away
Say you'll be with me
For I know I cannot
Bear it all alone

"You're not alone, honey."
"Never... Never."

Can't fight it all away
Can't hope it all away
Can't scream it all away
It just won't fade away, No

Can't wash it all away
Can't wish it all away
Can't cry it all away
Can't scratch it all away

(Can't fight it all away)
(Can't hope it all away)
Can't scream it all away
Ooh, it all away
Ooh, it all away

"But the imprint is always there. Nothing is ever really forgotten."
"God, please don't hate me"
"Because I'll die if you do."
"Because I'll die if you do."
"Because I'll die if you do."
"Because I'll die if you do."

How True is True Fitness

Firstly, never ever go for a trial session if you don’t mean to sign up. Secondly, never accompany your friend to a trial session as well.

Because in the next moment, you could possibly end up with a year’s worth of gym package that you never intended to bargain for.

This is what happened to me 2 years ago. My friend went for a trial. I accompanied her. We both ended up with 1 year package, pockets less endowed. :_(

Typically, the sales rep will first make us take our weight and height measurements. Next, he'd ask us to do a survey on our ideal weight fitness goals etcetera and our current engagements to achieve our goals. Crunch time comes when he uses the guilt trip treatment on us. He is successful when he makes us feel fat, feel that we’ll never have the motivation to lose weight on our own, feel that we'll never exercise ever again if we don't sign up for the gym membership pronto. Above all these, he promises us that his staff would be hounding us on our cell phones should we start making less trips to the gym(which by the way never happened even when I stopped visiting) He promises that we can lose weight. If not for the fact that I was DESPERATELY trying to lose that 6 kilos I’ve gained, I’d never have succumbed to any gym membership ever.

Next, once he had our interest piqued, he gave us a sky high quotation and rocket registration fee. I rejected immediately. He tried to sweet talk but failed. He asked us to give him a number. Then he said he would speak to his boss to try to get us a sweeter deal. After sometime, he came out, all smiles. Both now agreed to waive the rocket registration fee and the package deal rate is slashed. When worked out, it sets me back by $80 per month by installations. When I said I need to think about it, the boss stepped in to push us to take the deal. They were really good salesmen indeed. We both succumbed to what we thought seemingly a good bargain when in actual fact, was not. I later discovered that the “bargained” deal was the going market rate and some even had cheaper rates. Yes, they charge different prices to different customers and it could also be based on promotional deals. Surprise, surprise. They further tried to psycho us to sign up for gym trainers, which we both rejected.

I started going to the gym around 3 times a week. As I had always loved to exercise, I don’t fall short of deriving motivation to workout. Every trip there requires me to reject as least 2 to 4 trainers hawking their business. It really got on my nerves but I was polite all the same.

One fateful day, a trainer had casual chat with me as usual. However, he first mentioned that he had been seeing me frequently drilling long hours, he asked if I saw any results? Well, a little weight lost but still flabby as a bat! That was when he marketed his knowledge and skills. I was impressed by him as he was by me. I told him I do not need a trainer to motivate me to exercise, I only wished to take the minimal number of sessions and learn techniques from him so that I could execute them on my own. So I signed up for 8 sessions. It cost $90 thereabouts per hourly session.

I truly enjoyed his training. He understood my strengths and weaknesses well. He sculpted a plan which I should master specific techniques for each lesson. He even compiled a guide for me on workout techniques. Sadly speaking, by the 3rd or 4th session, his lesson was suddenly replaced by his cousin (who happens to be a trainer there). When I asked about it, I was informed that he was taken ill. After 2 more sessions with his cousin, I repeatedly asked for him. And he finally told me the truth and asked me to be hush about it. He had an argument with the management and left the company. I was not able to cancel the remaining training sessions as the management refused, citing that they can assign other trainers to me.

After the cousin, his other friend also helped to take up my training sessions, however I was no longer learning any more techniques. Can you imagine that the trainer comes to me and asks me what we should do today? Duhz. Through them, I also had first time experiences on Boxing. I must say it was fun; however not what I have paid for. :(

All in all, do remember that the trainers you see at gyms can leave the company in a blink of an eye. It happened to my friend as well. When you keep changing trainers, they don’t even understand your goals. Money was wasted. Lesson learnt.

I stopped visiting the gym with around 4 to 5 months to spare. I thought I would let it expire once the year contract is up. I kept getting phone calls from them hounding me to extend my membership to 2 years. *Rolls eyes. One day, I heard from outsiders that the gym membership AUTO RENEWS ITSELF when the 1 year contract ends. WOW!!! If so, why not just make it a LIFETIME CONTRACT UNLESS TERMINATED? Hmm... what does 1 year mean to you? It certainly didn’t mean auto renewals to me. That said, it’s completely meaningless to even sign a 1 year contract. Next, the ONLY WAY TO TERMINATE it is to go IN PERSON. Another WOW!!! You’d think they would have the basic courtesy to inform us this LITTLE DETAIL when we were signing the contract or at the very least informed us about the automated service when the contract is about to expire. It’s ABSOLUTELY REPULSIVE to deduct money on the sly.

I waited patiently for the last day and made my trip down. As I sat there filling my termination form, I saw other lambs on the chopping board and I felt sorry for them. Remember, no one should ever make you feel bad about yourself in other to benefit their own pockets. Sales techniques are specially designed to attack the majority’s soft spots. If you ever feel pressured, don’t be afraid to say No firmly and showcase your Speedy Gonzales skills. :D

Seriously Losing It

There are a lot of people losing it out there. Weight that is. Quick weight loss fads and starvation dietary methods are bad and don’t work. Did you know that weight loss doesn’t equate to burning fats? You think you lost weight because you lost water percentage. You start loving the bathroom scales. You want to buy a new dress. But hold up, just a sec. Did you lose any inches off your waist, arms and thigh? Few weeks down the line, you tip toe on the scales again and lo behold, the same old weight is back again.

I gained 6 kilos some 3 years ago and desperately tried losing the fats that settled comfortably in my under chin, cheeks, tummy, arms and legs. I couldn’t even fit into my jeans anymore. I had to wear baggy clothes to conceal my weight gain(but it’s kinda obvious anyway).

Let me list the things that I’ve tried and DOESN'T WORK or achieve the ideal results, so you can save yourself the money and time:

Skipping dinner (ate only veggies and soup and meat)
Less rice or no rice
Some Porridge and more veggies and meat
Elastic bands to wrap body, arms and thighs
Cellulite or fat burning cream & shower gel
Slow jogging
Working out 3 times a week at gym
Signed up for True Fitness 1 year package that cost me $960
Signed up for a gym trainer for 8 sessions cost me $720
Fruit slimming tea
Mac Happy Meals replaced normal sized meals(when at Mac)

The only thing I would never touch is slimming pills.

My goal was simple. I want to look like a walking stick be able to fit into my jeans again.

I’m sure loads of girls attest to this: When you are fat or chubby, you seem to see only slim petite girls everywhere you go. Duhzzzz!!! Horror!!!

After I gave up hope on getting my old self back, i was still prowling the internet hoping to find a miracle. Here's where i chanced upon a wonderful e-book of which it’s Title and Cover(aight’ I'll be honest okay, it’s the cover picture yar!!!) absolutely drew me in an instant. :D

The book is titled “The Truth About Abs” by Michael D.Geary(Mike for short). It was my ultimate health and fitness guide. I could never unlearn what I’ve gained from that book, and of course coupled with what my Significant Other and friend had taught me, I see good improvements to my body. I've long lost the 6 kilos and more. Contrary to whatever I’ve thought I was doing right in the past, I now practice some of his work out and nutritional methods. I am not at liberty to reveal what I’ve learnt in this blog as the information is copyrighted by Mike. However, I strongly urge that people who are serious about getting toned and fit to read his book.

Disclaimer: I do not know Mike on a personal basis and do not earn any commission from marketing him. I am sharing because I am a true believer. :)

Friends.

Current thought: I want to save more money because in future I would like to do what I love to do, rather than what I have to do.

I read a book these 2 days, titled "The Friendship Factor" by Alan Loy McGinnis. It opened my eyes and mind to the complexity of human nature. It speaks of improving relationships, how to love and be loved. I would love to start testing out what I've learnt. I know that the beginning of change is the hardest part of my journey, namely my pursuit of happiness. How do I define happiness? The secret of happiness is the contentment and satisfaction of what I am and have. Failed relationships and friendships are nothing new to me. In fact, they are aplenty. Over and over again, I’ve made friends and failed to keep them. I know that somehow somewhere, something is wrong with me. I need to change but failed to see what the underlying issue was. Perhaps, I am ignorant, stubborn and judgmental!? I probably won’t know as I am a bad judge of myself. I needed to see myself from other people’s eyes. I strongly believe that love & friendship are interlinked. Love blossoms from friendships. If you and your other half are as tight as best buddies, your relationship is built on some rockhard solid ground and I daresay it will last.

Some quotations from this book struck a chord back home.

“The roots of deepest love die in the heart if not tenderly cherished." ~ Von Herder~

“Lord, when we are wrong, make us willing to change and when we are right, make us easy to live with. “ ~Peter Marshall~

“Friendship is like money, easier made than kept.” ~Samuel Butler~

“A friend is one who walks in when others walks out.” ~Walter Winchell~

My take on friendship. I had written this some years back when envisioning how true friends ought to be.

Friendship

Friendship is a like a sweet smelling rose that blooms
Take care of it, or its thorns may wound

Friendship is ongoing like sea waves that break
Let your emotions flow like water in an open lake

Friendship is portrayed as planting a seed
Shower with love or yield evil fungus and weeds

Friendship is contrasted to a reflection of self
Earth does not evolve in I, me and myself

Friendship is often blocked by a barrier of translucent glass
Break it! And you’ll be rewarded with a relationship that lasts

Friendship interlinks two different souls as one
Two making merry definitely doubles the fun

Friendship is like a beggar’s secret wish for monetary wealth
No one’s perfect, so your sins are carefully hidden with stealth

Friendship’s begins like striking a match
Hot tempers may erupt, yet you grow fonder and more attached

Friendship is like incubating a chicken egg to hatch
His birthday is unforgettable, in your memory forever etched

Friendship is like a fairy’s enchanted wishing well
Your heart wishes him the best but then you always go hey what the hell

Friendship is like flies being attracted to shit
No matter how ugly, you still love him to bits

God created us with one mouth and two extruding ears
Yet why do we always speak more than we hear?

If we paid a little attention to every single worthy friend
We show the world that it’s never too late to repent

A Woman’s Greatest Asset?

Which is why Man created Shoes. Yes, you heard correctly. Not properties nor mountains. Good O Shoes. A money making industry indeed.

Women only have a pair of feet, why do we need so many shoes?

Firstly, we don’t have enough shoes. 10 pairs of heels, 10 ballet flats and 10 Sandal/Slippers aren’t that many shoes right?

We need to shoes for every occasion and events. There’s peep-toes, covered, wedges, pumps, kitten heels, high heels, boots, booties, sneakers, sandals, flip flops… Goodness knows what else.

We need the color/design/style to match our mood/clothes/handbag/hairstyle. Ahem, excuses, excuses.

First off, say we buy a dress. Then we buy a bag to match and throw in a couple of accessories. Next, we can’t find a shoe to match the dress. So, we seek a pair that compliments the dress. We can’t possibility find a substitute right Guys? Say, you bought a PS III and you fancy playing World Cup, but it’s currently sold out and you can’t find it anywhere. You wouldn’t substitute it with NBA as the feelin’ just ain’t the same.

Women want to please men. It involves looking good, right down to our toes. Yup. It's all about the packaging. If we look good, we exude natural confidence walkin' tall.

When we can’t decide which color looks best on us, 宁可杀错 不可放过 (translated badly as rather we'd kill wrongly then let any thing go). Just do it. Buy em’ all.

High heels tone our calves. We no longer need to run or go to the gym. More excuses not to exercise right? Toning and tottering on the go. Come on, admit it guys, high heels turn men on.

Shoes are a Women’s best friend trophies. If you own have a wife, buy her a big ass transparent shoe cabinet and a walk-in wardrobe. She will think you are God-sent. ;)

Haters in the movies

Caught a movie lately? Yes, no? Was it enjoyable or downright nasty? Apart from those insanely overpriced movie tickets, popcorn, nachos, cupcorn and what nots, we also have to deal with idiots selfish people in the cinema. Gone were the days when movie tickets, munchies were affordable and self awareness was a common sight. When I was in primary school, $7 a ticket already felt like hole in my daddy’s pockets. Now, it’s $11.50. They call it inflation. No wonder pirates evolved. I still love movies though'. For the superior sound system, big ass screen and for the company, I'd take the risk to meet the people below.

Let me list a bunch of people categories that I would hate to meet the most, in no particular order:

1) Lady with the Baby : It’s family day and where else to disturb the peace of movie lovers than bringing your baby along for the movie. Crying wailing screaming babies are definite no-nos. But a lot people lack the social etiquette and consideration for others. When Baby starts wailing, they simply ignore. Damn them parents. At least have the courtesy to bring your baby outside?

2) The Vibrator : This could take the form of a hairy shaking leg or feet or thigh. The person can’t stay still even if he were strapped in to the seat. He shakes throughout my entire movie experience like it came with the price of my ticket.

3) The Boneless Slump : The person who flops around his seat. Wiggles, flinches & squirms. Either he simply can’t find a single comfortable spot/pose or something is stuck up his S. One moment he crosses his legs, next moment props them up and then starts tap tapping his feet. Argh.

4) The Cell Master : Epic phone rings. Instead of switching it off, he answers the phone & yabbers away.

5) The Pig : It’s perfectly okay to fall asleep but SNORING like a Pig is NOT OKAY!

6) The ChatterBox : He couldn’t stop nudging his pal and making stupid comments about the movie as it screens. It’s not a soccer match so we don’t need a commentator.

7) The Scared Chick : The girlfriend who squeals and acts coy and covers her eyes when scary images comes up in a Horror or Comedy movie. Duhz.

8) The Smelly Cat : Either my neighbor has hog’s breath or feet or body. A friend once told me that her neighbor’s breath stink so bad that each time she opened her mouth to eat her popcorn and chew away, she nearly died of suffocation. I found it quite hilarious. Please chew a mint lah. People with body odor (though I understand that it may not be helped but…). People whose feet stink should refrain from taking off their shoes to air their feet in enclosed areas.

9) The Diner : When the movie begins, so does his meal. Miraculously, he brought his own cutlery and the entire KFC meal along.

10) The Eifel Tower : The Tallest man in the movie just plonked himself right in front of me. Yes, he can’t help being born tall, but he wears a cap?? Why cap? Why can’t he wear sunglasses instead? He prunes his hairdo in spikes? It’s already hard to see beyond the round head, now I still gotta peep through the spikes? *Slaps head. He sit up straighter than a metal rod. *Cries. I pray and beg he would fall asleep and sink deep into his seat.

11) The Know All : He’d already seen the movie online so he starts yapping to his friend about the movie and spilling all the plots and twists about the movie. He might as well narrate the whole story and kill all my joy. I would pay him to shut up.

Guilty of any of these actions? I was once The ChatterBox in a very lame action comedy. I usually do not chat away in movies but the movie was way too lame not to lambast it. I got told off by a very pissed girl beside me at the end of the movie, which made me wonder why didn't cha say so earlier man? I'd have shut up sooner had she told me. I'm not an unreasonable prick ya' know. I didn't see her face as she stomped off after that however I do applaud her guts whereas most people can only whine in FaceBook.

My Take on Seats

In view of present issues arising from young people refuse to give up seats, old people ungrateful after being offered a seat, complaints about foreigners taking all the seats, we should dismantle all the seats. All stand. Thank you.

Geesus! All that salivating over a miserly seat on the MRT. I don't understand what's the hype about rushing to "chope" a seat. "Chope" is a commonly used alternative word in respect to "book or reserve" in Singapore Context. For the love of God, if you have no manners, grow some. Courtesy goes a loooooong way baby.

Seats are privileges. Transport fares guarantees that you are brought to a destination but doesn’t guarantee you a seat. If children are naughty, we deprive them of their privileges like movies or candy. If adults are uncivilized barbarians, we deprive them of seats. Haha. If we stand day in and day out, our physical body gets used to it with passing time. If we no longer horde the mentality to grab a seat, we would be more gracious in letting the needy sit. I understand that not everyone works at an office job, sitting their arses on the chairs all day long but there’s no need to be rude. There were times when I was worn out and sat on the floor comfortably as there weren’t vacant seats. There were times when I cursed and swear at people who push me out of the way when they were rushing for seats. I refuse to take these in my stride so don’t be surprised when I push back.

Be nice to foreigners alright? They are here for a reason and they do contribute to our growing society. Foreigners exist in every Country and not just Singapore. We tend to feel it more because our Country is small, a dot on the map. If you go overseas, you are also a foreigner in their eyes. Would you want others to respect and be nice to you? Treat others as how you would like to be treated. The earth is round, not square. I don't hate foreigners, but I do hate RUDE people (foreigners or not)!

Reserved Seats and The Buzz Behind It:

Me? Why ME? Why not him?
I'm pretending to sleep.
I was dead asleep.
I'm temporary blind.
I'm busy with Iphone. I didn't see any needy people.
Is she pregnant or fat?
How to differentiate Old peeps and matured lookin' peeps?
Last time I offered my seat, I got rejected!!
I'm traveling long distance thus am more needy than you.
I paid for my transport fare so I'm entitled to a seat too you know?
Nowadays, offering a seat gets me scoldings. I'll keep my seat. Thank you.
Nobody thanks me for offering my seat. Sheesh. Act like some God-given Right.
Bleah! Don't see anyone offering me a seat when I needed one?

Any more ideas are welcomed!

Hello, Stranger

Do you have a people's face? I have one.
You ask me:" What is a people's face?"
I say: ”It's a face that people go to in times of need in public areas.”

Okay, citing some examples:

(1) DesiSmileys.com I stand at a far offish location. There’s absolutely nothing conspicuous about my hair, clothes or shoes. But a stranger approaches me from a distance away to ask me for directions.

(2) DesiSmileys.com My ears are plugged in. Seriously, I can't hear a thing you say. However, I do see a stranger waving your arms and lip syncing in front of me. I unplug my earpieces and you repeat your question. I wondered why you didn't approach the other people around me whose ears aren't plugged.

(3) DesiSmileys.com I’m on the move. I walking away from you, yet you catch up with me just to ask me for directions. I’m not the person you would approach that’s within the nearest proximity to you.

(4) DesiSmileys.com I’m in a foul mood. My face is blacker than Orh Dau You (Black Bean Soya Sauce), but that doesn't daunt you. Stranger still comes to me, somehow.

(5) DesiSmileys.com I’m with friends. We're chatting and laughing away. Choices are abundant but the stranger walks up and directs his query to me.

I wonder do I really have such an approachable face or does my face resemble a map? I’d really love to help with directions and all; however sadly speaking, I am one who fails miserably at directions. People who know me are aware of this. Chances of me getting lost in Orchard or Bugis is damn high. So, please pardon me if I say I don’t know. I really don’t. DesiSmileys.com I know limited locations and oh so limited how to get there routes (pretty much one-ways only). Lastly, please don’t ask me if I’m a Singaporean okay. I am. I just don’t know my way around it. :b

Silent Night

Over the rainbow through the sky
Under the reflection I see those eyes
These eyes bear weights like sunken souls
They drown, falling deep into the darkest moulds
These eyes that once spoke life to me
They can’t ever, never ever simply be
Just two sockets placed side to side
Unseeing, unfeeling, well, just not quite

This is my favorite quote of all times. I keep it in mind whenever I look at myself or others. It's how I remind myself to keep my both feet on the ground. 脚踏实地,简单就是快乐。(translated as keep my humble feet on the ground, simple is happiness)

The Gift of Eyesight through Epi-Lasik

Isn’t it everyone’s dream to have perfect eyesight? If it isn’t yours, it sure was my dream. I think my myopia started when I was 10. I personally destroyed my eyesight on purpose in the hope of wearing glasses. DUHZ!! WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?? GEEZUS. It all began when my elder sister started wearing them, and I thought how cool was that? So I put on her glasses and got what I wanted. A set of myopic eyes and of course a pair of new glasses. I was silly indeed. Especially when my family wasn’t that well to do and glasses were costly. Anyway, from the time Lasik hit the earth in a mind-blowing fashion, I always secretly wished that I had the money to go for it. But it was far out of reach and I was still young then. After extensive research on Lasik and what nots, I settled for Epi-Lasik at XXX (I won’t reveal the place publicly but would if you paid me a fee privately asked me). This surgeon and clinic had excellent blog and forum reviews. Wow! It's quite a reputable private clinic (or so I thought). It turned out really bad. If I go back in time, I will NEVER choose this fucked up clinic. No Siree!

Epi-Lasik explained with my personal experience:

A relatively new refractive surgery that involves using a blunt blade to scrape off the top cornea skin. Excimer laser will then be applied to correct your eyesight. A pair of special contact lens will be worn after surgery to protect your eyes and allow the cornea skin to self regenerate. The lenses are to be worn at all times, even when you are sleeping. The doctor will help you remove the lenses at the next appointment. Removal does not hurt and lenses did not stick to my eyeballs. Epi-Lasik is recommended for people with think corneas or has active lifestyles. I chose Epi-Lasik because I have an active lifestyle and do not wish to cut a flap in my cornea as what traditional Lasik does. I’ve heard that the flap never really seals back which I am not sure how true that is. Epi-Lasik may take up to 3 - 6 months to recover and to truly regain good eyesight whereas Lasik needs 24 hours.

When I went for my Pre-Lasik Evaluation to check if my corneas were suitable for Lasik, I was told that I had really thick corneas and am a great candidate. This implies that should there be any need for future enhancements, my corneas would be more than sufficient to cover this aspect. The nurse told me that few people choose Epi-Lasik because of the pain from recovery. She said the pain depends on individuals’ threshold for pain. I admit that at this news, I had my doubts and jitter bugs. She proceeded to tell me that I can have the surgery done immediately. No shit?! Now? Anyway, I booked it on a later date as I needed to plan for MCs and recovery period. I must say that the surgeon was nice and friendly.

I had Epi-Lasik on 3rd December 2009. It cost me 3.2 grand not inclusive of other charges. My degree stood at 400+ and astigmatism at 100+. I stopped wearing contact lenses at least 2 weeks before the surgery (prepping my eyes to make sure they are not misshaped by the lenses). On the day of the surgery, they will re-access your eyes and drip numbing anesthetic eye drops. You will be live whilst the surgery is performed. With scary state of art machine and surgeon in plastic gloves, I was apprehensive yet excited on the to-be. Lying on the operation theatre, my eye was pried open by the “machine”. The surgeon says: “Focus on the green light and don’t move, otherwise the operation might be botched.“ I did not feel any pain however I can see and feel the surgeon scraping my corneas. After surgery, I experienced blurry vision and sensitivity to light. This is expected of Epi-Lasik. I was prescribed a chunk of eye drops and a pair of sunglasses. I took a cab home and was off to sweet slumber.

When the anesthetic wore off, my eyes started to sting and water. It was pretty bad some nights as my eyes kept tearing away as I was trying to sleep.

6 months. Thats's what it took for my eyes to fully cover and have good vision. Astigmatism left on my right eye was 50. I do see light bursts on car headlights and street lamps.
This is pretty bearable. I do still treasure the gift of sight and I intend to keep it myopia-free. Good luck to all you peeps out there who are dying to go through Lasik too. My advise is to stick with traditional Lasik as I had a bad experience with my recovery precdure. It might have made a helluva difference.

Wishing you the best of luck! With Love.

CIU

I’ve spent 6 years of my life with Chronic Idiopathic Demographic Urticaria (CIU) every single frickin’ day. Needless to say, people who have this condition would know what it is and why it ruins and kills the joy in our lives. It absolutely CONSUMES me. I can’t find the trigger and I also lack the courage to pull the trigger. It’s really hard to stay positive when I’m scratching my balls skin off the whole time. Not to mention those sleepless nights.

Itchy, scratch
Pain, yelp
Cold, shiver
Hot, sweat
Pissed, lash
Scared, squirm
Happy, smile
Angry, frown
Sad, cry

These are some of the most frequent occurrences and our natural response to it.

Did I mention that scratching is obscene? Especially when sensitive areas itch in public. Now what am I to do about that? Ripping my skin into shreds of dead cells everyday. Sigh.

Telling a sufferer "don't scratch" is really the simplest thing one can say without being able to accomplish it themselves. Ever had an itch that you couldn't reach to scratch it? How did you feel? Rate your frustration out of a scale of 10 and multiply it by infinity. That's exactly how we feel. And because Xyzal had started to resist and is weaning off the effectiveness on me, I started googling AGAIN and miraculously discovered this darling website:

http://wordslessspoken.com/?p=549

I must say that I am going to try the Vitamin combo method tonight. Shall update again on this. Everyone with this condition should visit this webby as by far, this is most encouraging and informative. Even if this method does not work for me, I no longer feel alone on earth with this fucking skin disease.

Tried and NOT working:

• Loratidine
• Cetrizine (Zyrtec)
• Telfast
• Antarax
• Steroid Injections (relief for 1 week)
• Boy’s Pee mixed with Charcoal Ash (Application purposes, DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT CONSUME!!)
• Pearl Powder (Application & Consumption)
• Change of washing detergent/shower foam
• Vitamin B-12
• Heated White Rice Wine (Application)
• Seahorse Soup
• Some Chinese Herbal Soup Recipe from a friend
• Some Miracle Mixed Fruits Concentrate
• Calamine Lotion
• Dettol Powder
• ‘Snake’ Powder
• Icepacks
• Prescription Creams
& the lists goes on...

I wrote this years ago to speak about my pain of being itchyalive:

Live and let die let me be
Immerse myself in my serenity
Drown myself in a pool of blood
Watch my tears flow down in floods
Allow my sweat to drip and drop
It will dry up when I’m a corpse
Fly with me to the clouds above
Help me leave this pitiful earth
Been to heaven been to hell
Why do I still live to tell
Awaken myself from the undead
My eyes lie open when I go to bed
Drain my emotions my need to touch
My brain don’t function I don’t remember much
Freeze my heartbeat at zero degrees
Let my blood pressure speedily increase
Heat my temperature to boiling point
Crack my bones and break my joints
Clone me from a human being
Do I look pretty or simply obscene
Take my paw and slit my wrist
From this second
I cease to exist…

Parting thought: Why is Human able to develop an immunity against pain but not itch?

Don't Understand Women

I'll probably get hated by women for my post today but still, I know many guys face a great deal of frustrations with them. This post is written in the aspect of a typical guy in Singapore Singlish Style. Please Enjoy!

Women don’t say what they feel
They think what they think
And say things that don’t link

Women expect you to know
If you don’t, tempers throw and throw
How are we supposed to know?
We’re not Gods, just average joes.

Ask them what they want, they say anything
Buy them 6 packs of maxi pad with wings
How we know they set eyes on blingbling diamond rings?

Women want us to be early, can never be late
It’s perfectly ok only if they make us wait
Such unreasonable people, ultimate hate

Women once open their mouth will never shut
Must try to ignore, maybe just a naggy old fart
Must be stupid cupid shoot the wrong dart
Aim wrongly and then ended up in my heart

Women say yes means no and no means yes
Every time trying to put us to the test
If you can’t tell us straight, talk to our ass

With Love From,
Men~

More or Less?

Sometimes, having less is more. In Singapore, if you earn PEANUTS, you will be treated like a PEANUT.
Especially so if you are a guy. So, I'll just lay down some facts if money is a strong criteria for you when accessing a guy's marriage-abilty.

Fat paycheck may lead to:

LESS:
1) Sleep
2) time to enjoy your wealth
3) time for yourself, family & friends
4) time for leisure walks or activties
5) trust in people
6) humility & grace
7) giving
8) needs
9) wholesome
10) truthful

MORE:
1) money to travel to exquisite cities
2) business travels
3) private properties & luxury cars & stock trading or investments
4) liabilities & tax
5) atas or power hungry friends
6) wants
7) retail therapy
8) health issues
9) insurance
10) mistresses or sugar babies (appeal to the opposite sex)
11) liver burn from intoxication
12) feelings of an insatiable thirst for money
13) willful demands
14) brawls
15) divorce rates

Ohh this is also a cool way to console myself whenever I wished I earned more too. Hehe. Yes, let’s be honest here and say no one wants to marry a 穷光蛋?
And who wants to live in a dumpster? It’s good to get some goals and enjoyment in life but no one should prioritize money as the most important criteria when seeking your other half. Money comes and goes as it damn well pleases, so even if you lock it down, live like a scrooge, death will consume it. When you fly to hell heaven, you’d wish the one thing you spent the most was time with loved ones, rather than spending your dough.

2 many complaints, few gives compliments
2 much 2 take, 2 little 2 give
2 much to win, nothing to lose
2 many take for granted, few shows gratitude
2 much unhappiness, 2 little merriment
2 much selfishness, in this cold world
2 much deception, I live for your lies
2 many wars, evolved from peace
2 much coldness, icing the warmth
2 much discipline, mind freak control
2 many laws, we abide in fear
2 many rejections, subjected to approval
2 much jest, the joker laughs
2 much talk, without any action
2 much about me & least said about you
I take 2 much from a little of everything
It's 2 much for me to take
I'm going to let go
I control me

Hyperhidrosis

Something I written at 18 to reflect my pain of excessive sweating. It's a genetic condition.

I tell my story of life with hyperhidrosis
This condition has been planted on my face, feet and fists
It has followed me from an adolescent to an 18 year old teen
It is in my blood, it is in my genes
Since young, I could not write with my bare palms
Gloves or tissues prevents water smearing both my arms
I can't play with children because of physical contact
I'll bet they thought I was freaky, but hey that's a fact
I can't wear certain shoes because of my feet
They smell no matter how I wash and clean
Any contact with dust, it evolves into mud
It's truly revolting, it's driving me nuts
Remember the first time I wore that 3cm slip-on
It was also the last platform I ever placed my sole upon
So I'll stick to my flat wears and comfy sport shoes
At least I am safe from aching feet blues
Quick moments or even stillness invokes beads of perspire
People repetitively question me, but I never get tired
I'm always swiping tissues on my forehead and neck
Sweat trickles down my underarms and also my back
So I take a shower the moment I get back home
Scrubbing and lathering that soapy scented liquid foam
After I've towel dried my tussle of hair
I'm perspiring before I've thrown on clothes to wear
But growing up is simply a chore to be done
To top it off, I have sweats glands on my hands that run
In greetings when others extend their hands
I flip out the back of my hand, but I don't mean to offend
When my fingers accidentally brush by people's arms
They quickly swipe it off, like I'm some scurvy scum
During lunch, I leave mini puddles around my dining plate
Even if I wanna leave an impression, it all boils down to fate
Take a bus home, you'd think I'd ride in peace
Just gripping on metal rails accumulates the heat
I once dripped sweat on this working man's pants
Another time on a teenage boy's hand
I've never been so embarrassed in my peaceful life
Now I carry a handy towel that must always be by my side
I can't imagine holding hands with any boyfriend
Perhaps I'll be brokenhearted when I see him react
If I ever get married, I have thought for my kids
I'm truly fearful of this hereditary risk
I've tried it all, antiperspirants and medical pills
All fails and I've yet to find a remedy that's ideal
Electric current is periodically temporary
But it's high monthly bill is absolutely necessary
Surgery is timeless, it will last forever
Then again, side effects thereafter be delivered
So for now, I shall endure with my little shame
Cause this is my destiny, there's no one to blame

Above is my true life account. Only the last sentence is phony. In all honesty, I blamed my parents ALOT. All the bloody time. Every time I made puddles and every time I cried for dryness. I don't understand why they selfishly didn't think about the happiness of the next generation.

Fact: Surgery can only be performed for palms. There is no surgery for curing body and feet perspiration. (Yup, if feet surgery is available, I'd go for it too).

Plus points: My head and neck no longer perspires. My palms occasionally perspires when I exercise or feel really hot.
Side Effects/Compensatory Perspiration: The perspiration had diverted to my stomach and thighs. My body perspiration had doubled.

I've had Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy (surgery) performed at the CGH Heart Centre when I was 22. They cut two 1cm incisions at both sides near the armpit area and snip the perspiration nerve that controls the sweat on my palms. I spent one night at the hospital. The pain was so bad that I regretted this decision. However, when the joy of my dry palms settled in, I will never forget the exhilaration with the promise of a normal life. I can't remember how much I paid for the surgery, but its about 3 to 5 grand. I used my dad's Medisave as well.

No doubt it's not a life threatening condition but people will never understand how life sucked and was ruined because of excessive sweating because they weren't suffering from it. I firmly believe fellow sufferers will understand my/our pain. Things that normal people can do and take for granted are torturous and embarrassing for us. There are also many people who regretted this surgery because their hands dried out or compensatory sweating got so bad. But I'd rather change more T-Shirts or wear double layer clothes just to be able stop sweating. I remember every birthday wish was to beg God to stop my palms from sweating, and I was willing to give up 30 years of my life for that.

Fortunately, I discovered Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy. And oh man, life is worthwhile now. :)

Girls & Loos

Guys, ever wondered why gals need to visit the loo in twos or more? Isn't peeing supposed to be a lone ranger thing? How come girls seem to pee at the same time? Is it a coincidence?

Uh huh, the truth unveils.

1) Did you know its rude not to invite? Girls love to invite others to visit the loo together as its not very nice to take off alone. Others will gossip about you once you leave, right?

2) Girls hate being alone or being seen alone. They like to have company wherever they go.It's girl thing. You won't get it, it's okay.

3) If you have a female in your life, you probably knew that the queue at the female loos are so damn bloody long. Your time you spent loitering outside the lavatories could be better spent on gaming huh. Bring along a friend to chat whilst girls queue does make the time pass faster indeed.

4) Be it for security reasons, gossip or casual chat. Face it, girls love to jabber n gossip about the bitch in office(not a wise move here) or the new hottie bloke. Where else better to chat than whilst taking a leak and sharing the juicy bits?

5) Powder up & share make up. Yes, for unknown reasons, some girls share make up & tips together without regard for hygiene. Zee loo is where one can transform a gal from zero esteem to infinite confidence. Think, pouty lips and manga anime eyes. Guys totally dig it.

6) How come girls pee at the same time?

It's no coincidence of course but girls are the pee pee kinda people. It's a known fact that girls pee more than boys. Many times a day, even if you didn't know or notice, girls are holding their pee. Waiting to unleash. Maybe work is hectic or maybe she's plain lazy to walk. Known as the procrastination syndrome, many girls suffer from this deadly disease. Well, whatever the reason, even when u see us sitting there, legs crossed, fingers typing, yup we're holding it. So the relief finally comes when someone asks "Wanna go toilet?" and the gal totters along. So do you see how important those invites are? ^^V

7) You never know when menses might make an entrance. So to avoid trills and spills, bring a friend who can save u.

Friends that Make Me Tick

Friends make commitments that they don't intend to keep. Funnily, people do it all the time consciously or unconsciously. True enough, daily examples are horrendous. Friends that make me tick and cringe.

Say, XX readily agreed to go to this outing with me this weekend. Time and location and meeting place were set and ready to go. However, on the date itself, it was a no show. Duuuhhh! Even airlines charges money for no show fees, perhaps I should too?

Say, XX came to know about this outing and asked me indignantly “Why am I not invited?”, so I replied XX with the details of this outing. Voila! XX did not attend the outing afterall. The best part was XX does not inform me whether he/she was coming or not coming. Aha! Was it meant to be a RIDDLE?? Hmm…. I’m not so good with riddles, oh wells.

Say, after I kept facing multiple rejections from XX on hanging out sessions, XX casually remarked “Let’s catch up some time.” Kindly ZOOM IN on the FULLSTOP in this sentence. A FULLSTOP and a QUESTION MARK, it sure does make a helluva difference in the context. A fullstop ends the sentence, no commitments whatsoever, you may wish to think of it as a one night stand. A question mark however requires an answer, you may consider it as flexible commitment. Read carefully next time to avoid reading the wrong signals.

Say, XX is spontaneous hyper siao-on type of person. No matter what event or timing, XX is always EVER-READY to agree to go. I ain’t talking about a battery here, I’m talking about a human who doesn’t appear to think twice or check his own calendar schedules which might have been packed to the brim when he commits to an event . Just wondering, do you say yes before you thought about no? No. Yes, that’s just the answer I want to know. So is that a yes or no?

Yeah sure, go ahead and leave. The front door is open and kindly don’t bang your head on it along the way out alright? I don’t want any blood on my door. Thanks.

Style Trend (Elastic Tights)

Clothes can make or break us. How many times have you silently critiqued another’s dressing style and found yourself gleefully thinking “Thank goodness I look way better than That.”.

For the love of God and to avoid fashion disaster, please DO NOT wear your elastic band tights as a pair of external pants! You do not wish to look like a stuffed-up sausage, no siree.

Do couple your tights with a pair of shorts or mini skirt or a long top or absolutely anything, even a sarong that can help to hide your ass. There's a massive bunch of unconscious people walking around Singapore in nothing but tights and a short top appealing for my discomfort; to look elsewhere or just about anywhere else. Whether they have tight or loose buns, I’d really rather NOT know. Thank you. Didn't they know any better when they see other people spotting the same attire or do they selectively ignore these cold hard facts?

Ever notice why most plus sized ladies like to spot tights? (I really can't figure this out) Ever notice that even the skinniest people can't pull off a pair of tights and a short top? If the skinny can't even pull it off, how on earth can the plus sizer? (What were they thinking?!)

Verdict: Tights are not EXTERNAL pants!!! They are meant for ballerinas or dancers or for fashion statement (not disaster). Do not, I repeat DO NOT wear them by itself. They are lonely and in dire need of a companion to bring out the beauty of it.

Disclaimer: I'm not talking about cotton tights. Those are fine. I'm talking about elastic tights that bond your skin to skin. Gawd!!! Euuueeee!!! That said, please choose clothes that hide flaws and showcase your best. You do want to leave an good impression you know.

Bedtime Story: Rat Race

We all know what the 5Cs mean in Singapore. If you don't, here's the lowdown: Cash, Credit Card, Career, Condominium & Car. It’s a glorious goal that most people are striving for. However, sometimes we work so hard, running in the rat race that we tend to forget to enjoy the run. We forget the reason why we ran. We are nothing but mice. Each running in our own ‘hamster wheelies’ trying to get ahead in life, trying to outrun other fellow mice (because they are evil mice whose pure existence boils your blood each time they outshine you. You can’t let them overtake you without a fight!) Ultimately, the first mouse that reaches the destination gets to pick his cheese first. The pecking order had begun and every mouse wants to be first. Cheese is in priority of family and friends.

Each mouse is consumed by solitariness. As time passed, they lost their EQ and need to interact with others. They focused solely on themselves. They think the world is selfish and everyone else seems to owe them a living. Rumble grumble fumble. Picking themselves up. Weary from all these years of running, yet are so afraid that if they stop, others would overtake them. Fear shrouds their mind, the prized cheese renders all blind.

One day, a brave little mouse decided to ask another mouse to join him in his run. They hop onto a wheelie and they sped on and on. It felt like infinity and the best part was, they did not even feel tired because of the lovely company each had. They had so much fun that they asked other mice to join them. In no time, they bonded and formed a strong pack. A pack of runners can outrun lone souls easily and they accumulated a massive load of the finest cheese. However, cheese is no longer the sole pushing factor from them to continue their run. They have sufficient cheese for a comfortable living for their families. In fact, the joy of running together, making friends & having time for family overrides the seduction of cheese. They chuckled at other zombiefried mice who refused to join in their pack or form their own pack.

Running together increases productivity and efficiency. They have a sense of belonging to this pack. Henceforth, it's no longer a Rat Race.

Remember that Firsts will never come if there weren’t Seconds and Thirds to begin with. We all have a place in life. No matter how puny or insignificant you think you are, you matter to someone who holds you dear. Don't let others look down on you. Better yet, don't ever look down on yourself. Make others smile even if it means you gotta clown around. The happiest people always seem to poor. But they are very rich in their hearts & soul.

The secret of happiness is the contentment and satisfaction of what I am and what I have. My own run had just begun. How about you?

Where is the Chivalry, Gentlemen ?

Chivalry is freaking dead. Let me teach you something that even BEASTS human beings should would know. This may be applied to all femmes, platonic or significant other.

Rule #1: Always treat a lady right.

#2: Open the door for her.

#3: Always look behind, hold the door if you see her coming your way.

#4: Offer her your jacket if she is cold (not your freaking body, you cheekopek!!!).

#5: Even if you are shorter than her, be the one to hold the umbrella when there's a downpour(So what if you have short legs, body and hands. Tell me, what other part of you is short???).

#6: When walking beside her on the pavement, you should take the side closest to the road.

#7: Offer to send her home when it's past midnight, if she declines, accept it. Don't push your luck ma' brother.

#8: If you do send her home, walk her to her door. That's only polite and ensures her safety ain't compromised.

#9: Always ask her how she feels, what she likes to eat and where she would like to go. Dont ASSume. If she says she is fine with anything, please be a man & exercise your decisional rights & instincts.

#10: When she is carrying a heavy load, offer your damned biceps and she may just offer herself to you. *wink

Disclaimer: Chivalry does not & should not be applied to bitches unworthy souls.

Hogwarts in Singapore

You can find the Hogwarts spirit right here in Singapore.

Aboard the MRT Train

RavenClaw: Self-fullfiling harmless lot. These people will find a pole, a wall, a stranger's arm or spine and start leaning their weight on it for alls' worth. They have no backbone. Since they can't get a seat, might as well lean for abit. They also tend to Stomp people who sit on 'Reserved Seats'. All talk and no action.

Gryffindor: Righteous goody-2-shoes lot. They give up their seats and mind their personal space. They wake people who are pretending to concuss to ask them to give up their seats to the needy. They'd rather die than to be seen in Stomp on a reserved seat when there's like a pregnant woman standing 3 train cubicles away. It's better to be safe than sorry.

HufflePuff: Quiet & Cowardly lot. You will recognize them by their wide, fearful eyes. Bags pressed tightly to their bodies, eyes wary of pervs and thieves. First to run when there's any sign of trouble.

Slytherins: Evil suspicious lot. They don't believe in the exit before boarding rule. The moment they slither in from the doorway, you will feel them before you actually see them as they will be shoving, pushing, poking your back. Whatever it takes to get a seat! Poof!! They teleport to the next available empty seat before you can think "ah.. a seat".

Simply MAGICAL experience on board the MRT train.
