Friends.

Current thought: I want to save more money because in future I would like to do what I love to do, rather than what I have to do.

I read a book these 2 days, titled "The Friendship Factor" by Alan Loy McGinnis. It opened my eyes and mind to the complexity of human nature. It speaks of improving relationships, how to love and be loved. I would love to start testing out what I've learnt. I know that the beginning of change is the hardest part of my journey, namely my pursuit of happiness. How do I define happiness? The secret of happiness is the contentment and satisfaction of what I am and have. Failed relationships and friendships are nothing new to me. In fact, they are aplenty. Over and over again, I’ve made friends and failed to keep them. I know that somehow somewhere, something is wrong with me. I need to change but failed to see what the underlying issue was. Perhaps, I am ignorant, stubborn and judgmental!? I probably won’t know as I am a bad judge of myself. I needed to see myself from other people’s eyes. I strongly believe that love & friendship are interlinked. Love blossoms from friendships. If you and your other half are as tight as best buddies, your relationship is built on some rockhard solid ground and I daresay it will last.

Some quotations from this book struck a chord back home.

“The roots of deepest love die in the heart if not tenderly cherished." ~ Von Herder~

“Lord, when we are wrong, make us willing to change and when we are right, make us easy to live with. “ ~Peter Marshall~

“Friendship is like money, easier made than kept.” ~Samuel Butler~

“A friend is one who walks in when others walks out.” ~Walter Winchell~

My take on friendship. I had written this some years back when envisioning how true friends ought to be.

Friendship

Friendship is a like a sweet smelling rose that blooms
Take care of it, or its thorns may wound

Friendship is ongoing like sea waves that break
Let your emotions flow like water in an open lake

Friendship is portrayed as planting a seed
Shower with love or yield evil fungus and weeds

Friendship is contrasted to a reflection of self
Earth does not evolve in I, me and myself

Friendship is often blocked by a barrier of translucent glass
Break it! And you’ll be rewarded with a relationship that lasts

Friendship interlinks two different souls as one
Two making merry definitely doubles the fun

Friendship is like a beggar’s secret wish for monetary wealth
No one’s perfect, so your sins are carefully hidden with stealth

Friendship’s begins like striking a match
Hot tempers may erupt, yet you grow fonder and more attached

Friendship is like incubating a chicken egg to hatch
His birthday is unforgettable, in your memory forever etched

Friendship is like a fairy’s enchanted wishing well
Your heart wishes him the best but then you always go hey what the hell

Friendship is like flies being attracted to shit
No matter how ugly, you still love him to bits

God created us with one mouth and two extruding ears
Yet why do we always speak more than we hear?

If we paid a little attention to every single worthy friend
We show the world that it’s never too late to repent
